What are the changes in breast tissue over time?

10 June 2019

The breast is a dynamic, unsupported organ. With no muscle or bone to bear its weight, it undergoes significant internal and external stresses over a lifetime — pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes and exercise — which can lead to loss of volume and sagging.

How does implant weight affect the breast?

More weight means more gravitational pull, and therefore more stress on the breast and surrounding tissue. Over time this can contribute to sagging and even back and neck pain, while movement during activity adds to the strain. Less weight simply means less strain.

How are B-Lite implants different?

Every implant has a shell and a filler. In traditional implants the filler is silicone gel or saline. B-Lite combines clinically proven materials into a lightweight filler — up to 30% lighter — while using a premium shell from a leading German manufacturer with over 30 years of experience. They are available in smooth, textured, round and anatomical options.

What is the B-Lite gel made of?

Tiny hollow microspheres are permanently bonded within medical-grade silicone gel, making the implant significantly lighter. Microspheres are biocompatible and widely used in medicine and cosmetics; their bonding to the gel remains intact even in the unlikely event of rupture.

Are they safe?

B-Lite implants were developed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, scientists and engineers and tested over ten years before being offered to patients. All materials are documented, inert and biocompatible, and the microspheres remain stable under any pressure a person can normally encounter — there is no concern with flying, diving or mountain climbing.

Does the surgery change?

There is no change to the surgical technique compared with traditional implants, and most patients report less pain and a faster recovery.
