THE PROMISE

Relief from discomfort. A natural result. Confidence restored.

What is Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces and reshapes the labia minora — the inner lips of the vulva — when they are enlarged, elongated or asymmetric. For some women this is present from puberty; for others it follows childbirth or the natural changes of age. Beyond appearance, enlarged labia can cause real physical problems: chafing and irritation, discomfort during exercise, cycling or intercourse, and difficulty with hygiene or certain clothing.

It is a procedure to reduce the size of the labia minora. This relieves physical discomfort during exercise or intercourse and improves the aesthetic appearance, boosting personal confidence. The aim is a natural, comfortable and symmetric result, achieved with discretion and respect for your privacy.

The Procedure

The excess labial tissue is carefully removed and the edges refined using fine, dissolvable sutures, to leave a smaller, smoother and more symmetric shape. Several techniques exist — for example trimming along the edge or removing a small wedge of tissue — and the most suitable one depends on your anatomy and your goals. It is usually carried out as a day case, most often under local anaesthesia (sometimes with sedation), and takes about an hour. Throughout, the aim is a natural result that preserves normal sensation and function.

The technique best suited to you and the type of anaesthesia are discussed and agreed with Dr. Karatzias in a private, unhurried consultation.

How the Patient Recovers

Some swelling and mild discomfort are normal in the first days and settle over the following weeks, eased with simple measures and loose clothing; the sutures dissolve on their own. Most women return to desk work within a few days, while strenuous exercise, cycling, swimming, intercourse and tampon use are usually avoided for about four to six weeks while the area heals. The final, settled result appears over the following weeks to months.

Are You the Right Candidate?

Labiaplasty may suit adult women who are bothered by the size or shape of the labia minora — whether because of physical discomfort during exercise or intercourse, irritation and hygiene difficulties, or self-consciousness — and who are in good general health with realistic expectations. The most important first step is a private, respectful consultation to understand your concerns and explain clearly what the procedure can and cannot do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it look natural?

That is the aim. The goal is a smaller, smoother and more symmetric shape that looks natural rather than obviously operated on, refining your own anatomy instead of creating a "done" appearance. The result is planned around your individual shape and what feels comfortable to you.

Where is the scar, and will it be visible?

Any scar lies along the edge of the labia minora or where a small wedge of tissue is removed, in a naturally discreet area, and is closed with fine dissolvable sutures. Scars typically settle and fade over the following months. The area is not generally on show, so the result is private as well as discreet.

Does it hurt, and what will the swelling be like?

The procedure itself is comfortable, as it is usually carried out under local anaesthesia (sometimes with light sedation). Afterwards most women describe soreness and tenderness rather than sharp pain, managed with simple pain relief, loose clothing and simple measures. Some swelling in the first days is normal and settles over the following weeks.

How much time off will I need?

Many women return to desk work within a few days. Strenuous exercise, cycling, swimming, intercourse and tampon use are usually avoided for about four to six weeks while the area heals, and the final, settled result appears over the weeks to months that follow.

Will it affect sensation or function?

The procedure is planned and performed to preserve normal sensation and function while reducing the excess tissue. The chosen technique, your individual anatomy and what to expect are discussed fully and privately before any decision is made.

How private is the consultation, and how much does it cost?

Your consultation with Dr. Karatzias is completely confidential and unhurried, with respect for your privacy at every step. The cost depends on your individual plan and is discussed openly at the consultation. You can complete the online consultation form or call +357 22 275522.
