MALE CHEST CONTOURING

Gynecomastia Surgery

Also known as male breast reduction, gynecomastia surgery removes the excess glandular tissue and fat that enlarge the male chest — flattening and refining the contour for a firmer, more masculine line.

THE PROMISE

A flatter, firmer chest. A masculine contour. Renewed confidence.

What is Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in men, caused by excess glandular tissue, fat, or a combination of the two. It is common and harmless, but for many men it is a long-standing source of self-consciousness that diet and exercise alone cannot resolve.

Surgery treats it by removing the excess glandular tissue and fat to flatten and contour the chest, restoring a firmer, more masculine appearance. Where the enlargement is mainly fatty, liposuction alone may be enough; where there is firm glandular tissue, it is removed directly through a small incision placed at the lower edge of the areola, so the resulting scar is discreet and well hidden.

The Procedure

Treatment is tailored to the cause of the enlargement. For a predominantly fatty chest, liposuction through one or two tiny incisions removes the excess fat and refines the contour. When firm glandular tissue is present, it is excised directly through a small incision at the edge of the areola. In many cases the two techniques are combined, to both reduce volume and tighten the chest.

The operation typically takes two to three hours and is usually performed as a day procedure. The most suitable technique, and the type of anaesthesia, are confirmed with Dr. Karatzias at your consultation.

How the Patient Recovers

A compression garment is worn for several weeks to support the chest and reduce swelling. Most men return to office work within about a week, with strenuous activity and exercise resumed gradually over four to six weeks. Some swelling and numbness are normal in the early weeks and settle as the chest heals, with the final contour becoming apparent within two to four weeks.

Are You the Right Candidate?

Good candidates are men bothered by persistent breast enlargement that has not improved with exercise or weight loss, who are in good general health and at a stable weight. A consultation is the best way to confirm the cause of the enlargement and the most suitable approach for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my chest look natural afterwards?

That is the aim — a flatter, firmer line that suits your build rather than an obviously "operated" look. The goal is to remove what is making the chest look full while leaving a smooth, natural contour, so the result reads as a more masculine version of your own shape.

Where will the scar be, and will people notice it?

Any gland is removed through a small incision placed at the lower edge of the areola, where the change in skin colour helps hide the scar; liposuction goes through one or two tiny incisions. Scars are kept minimal and discreet, and typically fade over time. Dr. Karatzias explains exactly what to expect at your consultation.

Does it hurt, and how much bruising and swelling should I expect?

Most men describe tightness and tenderness rather than sharp pain, managed with simple pain relief. Some bruising, swelling and numbness in the early weeks are normal and settle as the chest heals — a compression garment is worn for several weeks to support the area and limit swelling.

How much time off work and the gym will I need?

Most men are back to office work within about a week. Strenuous activity, lifting and the gym are reintroduced gradually over roughly four to six weeks, so your chest is well on the way to healing before you load it again. Your timeline is confirmed with Dr. Karatzias.

Will the results last, or can the enlargement come back?

Once glandular tissue is removed it does not grow back, so the result is generally lasting. Significant weight gain, certain medications or some hormonal changes can, however, affect the chest over time, which is why a stable weight and good general health give the most durable outcome.

Can it be combined with liposuction or another procedure?

Yes — gland removal and liposuction are very often performed together in the same operation to both reduce volume and refine the contour, and it can sometimes be combined with other body work where appropriate. What can be safely done in one session is decided with Dr. Karatzias at your consultation.
