RESTORING FORM & FUNCTION
Rebuilding what cancer, trauma, or chronic wounds take away — from breast reconstruction to skin grafts, flaps, and advanced wound care, restoring both function and confidence.
THE CHALLENGE
Reconstruction is the quiet heart of plastic surgery. When illness or injury takes something away, our purpose is to give it back — restoring function first, then form, and with it the dignity and confidence that healing brings.
From breast reconstruction after cancer to wound care, trauma repair, and skin-cancer surgery, we combine surgical precision with a deep commitment to restoring both how you function and how you feel.
We restore the shape of the breast after a mastectomy for breast cancer, using implants, your own tissue (a flap), or a combination of both. Performed immediately or in delayed stages, reconstruction is a deeply personal step toward restoring your silhouette and sense of wholeness.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer, and early removal gives the best outcome. We excise the lesion with a clear margin of healthy tissue, then reconstruct the defect — by direct closure, a skin graft, or a local flap — restoring appearance and function, with special care on the face.
When trauma, burns, infection, or tumour removal leave a defect, we rebuild it. Following the "reconstructive ladder" from simple to complex, we choose the right technique — direct closure, skin graft, local flap, or microsurgical free-tissue transfer — to restore both function and form.
Soft-tissue injuries and deep lacerations need meticulous repair — often of nerves, tendons, and vessels beneath the skin. We restore function first, then refine appearance, followed by dedicated scar management (silicone, massage, pressure garments) to leave the scar as inconspicuous as possible.
A wound that fails to heal within four to six weeks is chronic — pressure sores, venous or arterial leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers. We treat both the wound and its underlying cause through debridement, advanced dressings, infection control, and where needed surgical reconstruction, within a multidisciplinary team.
The diabetic foot is a serious, limb-threatening complication where nerve and vessel damage let minor wounds become severe. We focus on healing and prevention — debridement, infection control, pressure offloading, and reconstruction with grafts or flaps. Dr. Karatzias is accredited by D-FOOT International.
Benign lumps — soft fatty lipomas and fluid-filled cysts — can be removed safely when painful, growing, or bothersome. Most are excised under local anaesthesia through a small incision, with the tissue sent for histology, aiming for complete removal and the smallest possible scar.
