    Blepharoplasty

    What is blepharoplasty

As you age, excess fat can deposit around your eyes, forming bags. Loss of skin and soft tissue elasticity is also very normal to appear over time and can cause the brows and cheek fat pads to droop.

The procedure of Blepharoplasty removes the loose skin and fat around the eyes in order to reduce or eliminate the fall of the eyelids. It can be combined with laser resurfacing or mesotherapy to reduce lines and wrinkles even more. The patient may begin reading after about two to three days and can expect to return to work at approximately five to ten days. Use of contact lenses may be resumed after two weeks (upon reevaluation by the doctor). The patient should not consume alcohol after the surgery. More strenuous activities and alcohol consumption may be resumed after three weeks. Bruising and swelling should be gone after several weeks.

    Are they any side effects?

Possible side effects are temporary discomfort, feeling of “tightness” in the eyelid area, swelling or bruising. Excessive tearing and sensitivity to light for the first few weeks should be expected. Temporary dryness, burning or itching of eyes may also occur, but these side effects are rare.

Risks include temporary blurred or double vision, infection, bleeding, swelling at the corners of the eyelids, dry eyes, formation of whiteheads, slight asymmetry in healing or scarring, difficulty in closing eyes completely (which is rarely permanent) and a lowered position of the lower eyelid which may require further surgery. Permanent loss of vision is a risk, but it is extremely rare.

    How the patient recovers

We use the most advanced surgical technology, disposables and techniques when performing treatments and procedures to maximize your results and diminish the length of your recovery period. To reduce risks and maintain as much of the results for as long as possible we recommend that you refrain from smoking for a minimum of six weeks prior to the surgery and for the duration of your recovery period.
