Breast augmentation

What is breast enhancement

Nowadays, breast augmentation surgery is almost always performed with silicone implants. Besides silicone implant placement, the other technique becoming more widespread with each passing day is breast augmentation with fat injections. With breast injections, very natural and aesthetic results can be achieved by providing augmentation with the patient’s own tissue in non-sagging breast. However, keep in mind that this technique has disadvantages as well.

Some of the fat tissues injected into your breasts may melt, especially if you are a smoker and to be able to have this surgical procedure you are required to have a significant amount of fat in your body.

What is the procedure

You may be a candidate for breast augmentation if:

-You are physically healthy and you aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding
-You have realistic expectations
-Your breasts are fully developed
-You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too small
-You are dissatisfied with your breasts losing shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss or with aging
-You are unhappy with the upper part of your breast appearing “empty”
-Your breasts are asymmetrical
-One or both breasts failed to develop normally or have an elongated shape

What will be discussed during your consultation

During your breast augmentation consultation be prepared to discuss:

-Why you want breast augmentation surgery, your expectations and the desired outcome
-Medical conditions, drug allergies and previous medical treatments
-Current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drug use
-Family history of breast cancer and results of any mammograms or previous biopsies

What to expect in the examination

Dr. Karatzias will also:

-Evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors
-Examine and measure your breasts, including detailed measurements of their size and shape, skin quality and placement of your nipples and areolas
-Take photographs
-Discuss your options and recommend a course of treatment since silicone implants vary widely in brands, size, shape, texture and cohesion.
-Discuss likely outcomes of breast augmentation and any risks or potential complications.

Are they any risks during the procedure?

Possible breast augmentation surgery risks include anaesthesia risks, bleeding/hematoma, infection, changes in nipple or breast sensation, poor scarring, wrong or faulty position of the implant, implant leakage or rupture, the formation of tight scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture), fluid accumulation, wrinkling of the skin over the implant, persistent pain, possibility of revision surgery.

These risks and others will be fully discussed prior to your consent. It is important that you address all your questions directly to Dr Karatzias.

How the patient will recover?

We use the most advanced surgical technology, disposables and techniques when performing treatments and procedures to maximise your results and diminish the length of your recovery period. To reduce risks and maintain as much of the results for as long as possible we recommend that you refrain from smoking for a minimum of six weeks prior to the surgery and for the duration of your recovery period. Please also note that for this particular procedure if you become pregnant or lose a significant amount of weight, you should wait until after your body has reached a stable equilibrium.
To determine if this procedure is right for you, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Karatzias. During the consultation, your concerns will be discussed in depth and the best surgical or non-surgical solution will be determined, always having your trepidations and expectations in mind.
